(Singapore, 3 April 2017) – Mr Lim Han Ee is appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Singapore Sailing Federation [SingaporeSailing] with effect from 3 April 2017.  He takes over from Mr Andrew Tam who will be joining the Singapore Management University as its Associate Director for Alumni Relations.

Andrew has dedicated much time and effort to Singapore sailing, especially with respect to the proactive engagement of our member clubs and other stakeholders. Under Andrew’s watch, Singapore hosted two editions of the World Sailing Emerging Nations Programme (ENP) and has been appointed a World Sailing Approved Training Centre – the first of its kind in Asia. Also under Andrew’s watch, SingaporeSailing outdid itself by sending record-breaking number of sailors to the 2016 Rio Olympics. An impressive 10 sailors competed across six classes in Brazil, making the sport the largest among Singapore’s contingent of 24 athletes.

“The Executive Committee would like to thank Andrew for his hard work and unwavering commitment to SingaporeSailing during his tenure as CEO and would like to wish him all the best in the next phase of his career,” said Dr Ben Tan, President of SingaporeSailing.

Quoting from Dr Ben Tan’s speech at the SSF Awards Night on 24th of March this year, “To continue to elevate ourselves to the next level, and the next, we need to strengthen the bench through proactive succession planning, at the staff, management, committee, and Exco levels, as you will see in the coming months and years.”  Dr Tan adds, “Society and the sports world is always evolving, and we need to anticipate these changes to strategically position ourselves to capitalize rather than be a victim of these changes.”

Han Ee, 39, is the founder and partner of Emerge Performance, a corporate training and leadership development consultancy.  As a professional leadership coach, he specialises in employing sport psychology-based methods to enhance leadership effectiveness, mental resilience and team cohesion.  Mr Lim worked as a sport psychologist in the US with various professional, national, All American and Red Bull athletes.  He graduated from John F Kennedy University, USA with a Masters in Sport Psychology, and has also undergone professional training at the IMG Performance Institute.

Prior to setting up Emerge Performance, Han Ee served as a Naval Officer for 15 years, sailing on frontline naval vessels. Han Ee’s links to the sailing community is further evidenced by his journey and success as a national windsurfer.

Even before Han Ee’s appointment as CEO, he was already serving on SingaporeSailing’s Finance Committee and Selection Panel, and is therefore very familiar with SingaporeSailing’s set up.

“Given his professional background in sport psychology and leadership development, hands on experience managing a crew on frontline naval vessels, and first-hand experience of the athlete’s journey as a national windsurfer, Han Ee is well-positioned to lead SingaporeSailing to greater heights,” added Dr Ben Tan, President of SingaporeSailing.

Outgoing CEO Andrew Tam:

“It has been a fantastic journey together with sailors, colleagues and friends. It was a challenge to leave the education sector to pursue a new career and role in SingaporeSailing because of the very high standards and expectations. Without the guidance and support of my predecessor Wearn Haw, and SingaporeSailing President Dr Ben Tan, I would not have managed to achieve so much during my time as CEO. My job was made easier because I had very able colleagues from the GM to CFO to High Performance Manager.”

“With its strong culture and committed people with clear values set on delivering sailing to the highest level, I can see that SingaporeSailing is well-positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities in a rapidly changing world. I will be taking many fond memories of working with the sailing community, stakeholders and staff. These people have a passion for the sport of sailing and I will continue to share the same passion in another capacity.”

“My links with sailing does not stop here. Just as my predecessor so responsibly did, I will ensure a smooth handover and volunteer myself to continue to promote the sport, especially in an area closest to my heart – building a vibrant and healthy varsity sailing scene.”

“In Han Ee, we have a valued member of the community and a strong leader with the right experiences to take the sailing ecosystem to the next level. Congratulations to Han Ee on the appointment.”

Incoming CEO Lim Han Ee:

“I am excited to embark on this journey with the SingaporeSailing family and feel blessed to have this opportunity to lead in this esteemed position that many accomplished individuals have held before me. Andrew has done a plenty for the sport during his tenure and I am eager to build on the work that he and his predecessors have invested in.”

“Somehow, I have this feeling that my past journey as a national windsurfer, naval officer serving on frontline ships, and sports psychologist and executive coach have all led me to this new chapter as CEO of SingaporeSailing. They are all relevant to this role, and I am eager to apply all that experience to bring the sport to new heights.”

“Working closely with Dr Ben Tan, stakeholders, and especially the staff at SingaporeSailing to drive our mission and vision will be what I am looking forward to doing in the next phase of development for this sport. I have benefited tremendously from the sailing community throughout my life and now, I am humbled by this opportunity to contribute back to Our Sailing Family in this capacity.”
