*** Weekday course from 9:30am - 5:30pm for 4 days (total of 8 sessions) ***

Intake 3 - Jul 7, 8, 9, 10

Pre - Requisites 

● Min Age 7 years old to 12 years

● Able to swim 50m with personal floatation device

  2. Parts of the boat & their usage
  3. Points of sail
  4. Simple sailing knots
  5. Rigging and derigging
  6. Basic boat handling
  7. Heave-to
  8. Getting out of irons
  9. Launching and recovery
  10. Capsizing
  11. Avoidance of collisions
  12. General knowledge of weather, tides & current

  • Prerequisite: Minimum 7 years old to start (after birth date).
  • Able to swim at least 50 m with a personal flotation device.
  • Singapore Sailing Federation reserves the right to cancel a session due to lack of participation (Minimum 6 to start the course).
  • No replacement classes will be provided for any missed sessions without a medical certificate.

What to Bring: 

    • Sun block lotion
    • Sunglasses and retention strap 
    • Rubber soled shoes (covered) or sailing booties – (no sandals)
    • Rash guard or T-shirt & swim long tights or pants (for on-water sessions)
    • Cap 
    • Helmet (e. g. bicycle / roller skate helmet)
    • A pair of sailing gloves 
    • Whistle
    • Water bottle
    • Towel
    • A set of extra clothing
    • Lunch meal
    • Snack (e.g. energy bar, banana & etc)
    • Writing materials (notebook & pen)

What will be provided: 

  • Course training book
  • Personal Flotation Device (PFD)
  • Sailing/training equipment
  • Opti Junior Certification (upon completion)

To obtain Optimist Certification, participants must successfully complete the programme.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Do I need to know how to swim?
A: Yes, a swim test will be conducted in the open sea. You will be equipped with a personal flotation device (will be provided).

Q: What is the duration of classes?
A: Classes will run from 0930 - 1230.

Q: When will I receive information on the meeting time and place and any clothing I should prepare?
A: The above joining details will be provided about 1 week prior to the course commencement.

Q: Will lunch be provided?
A: No, please kindly provide your own meal as we also do not have any Canteen on our place.

Q: I would like to buy this for a friend but I'm not sure if he/she can make it for the dates listed above.

To obtain Level 1 Dinghy Proficiency, participants must successfully complete the theory and practical assessments. After successful completion of the theory and practical assessment, participants can submit the application for the Level 1 Dinghy Proficiency card. 

Note: Kindly bring your meal & own snacks e.g. fruits or energy bar for your recovery food after the afternoon sailing.
