Join our Club Mark Layer Course, a key step in the Mark Layer certification pathway, and gain the skills needed to support sailing regattas as part of a race management team. Designed for those with little or no sailing experience, this hands-on course teaches you how to use the fundamental tools to set a race course. Whether you’re new to sailing or want to contribute to the sport, you’ll learn how to play a vital role in ensuring successful events.
Upon completing the course assessment, participants will receive a certificate of competence, marking their progress in the Mark Layer certification pathway.
Course Objectives
At the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Understand the roles and requirements needed to perform the duties of a mark layer.
- Read and pick out the important information in the Sailing Instructions.
- Set up the ground tackle and RHIB.
- Use a hand-bearing compass, burgee, and anemometer to log wind bearings.
- Lay marks for a trapezoid course.
- Communicate properly over the VHF.
Pre-requisites
- An SSF account is required. Register as "Regatta Crew" here: https://www.sailing.org.sg/registration
- Possess a Powered Pleasure Craft Driving License (PPCDL)
- Passionate to volunteer at sailing events
- Able to be on the water for an extended period without being seasick
- Previous experience in sailing (either as a parent, volunteer, or sailor) [Preferred but not mandatory]

Training Location: National Sailing Centre, Auditorium
Time: 0930-1800h
To bring: Outdoor sports attire and change of clothes, sunscreen lotion, water bottle
Lunch: Provided
