Do we need any membership with SSF before we could register for courses?
No membership is required to enrol for any courses. We welcome everyone to learn and enjoy sailing with us.

Is sailing a safe sport?
We place a major emphasis on safety. You will have a fully qualified instructor with you and it is mandatory to wear a buoyancy aid (which will be provided) at all times.

Do you conduct any courses for keelboat?
We do not offer any keelboat courses. You can reach out to our various affiliated club that offers them.

What is the minimum age to join Basic Sailing Course?
The minimum age to join the Adults’ Basic Sailing Course is 13 years old.

Do you have any sailing courses for kids?
Any children aged between 7 (after birthday) to 12 years old can enrol in our Opti Junior programme.

What will happen if it is raining before or during lessons?
Weather conditions are always closely monitored by our instructors as well as Front Desk. In the event of a storm or present lightning activity, all the outdoor or water-based activities will be stopped and wet weather programmes will be conducted in the classrooms.

Is the GKA (Gets Kit Afloat) programme conducted at SAFYC similar to Opti Junior Course conducted at NSC?
Yes, GKA (Gets Kit Afloat) and our Opti Junior course covers the same syallabus.

What is the next pathway after they completed the Opti Junior course?
The Optimisit pathway emphaisze progression and systematic growth. After they graduate, they can move on the next level and join our Opti Sailor training programme.

Do you have any make up lesson if the child missed any of the sessions?
There are no makeup lessons. We highly encourage sailors to attend every session.

Can we use skills future credit for any of your courses?
Unfortunately at the moment, you are unable to use the skills future credit to offset the sailing course.

I am above 60 years old and can swim and with no pre-existing medical conditions, can I enrol for the adult basic sailing course?
Yes, you can! As long as you are physically fit and agile enough to jump in and out of the boat as part of our safety drill for capsized boats.

My child just signed up for Opti Racer course, can he now take part in the regatta?
Your child will need to complete and graduate from the course to be eligible to take part in regattas.

Metal Equipment Storage Matters
How can i get a metal locker for my child?
Please email us at info@singaporesailing.org.sg to make a request. The metal lockers are only available for sailors that are enrolled in our programmes. Due to the limited number of lockers, it will be subjeted to availability. You will be placed on a waiting list if there are no available lockers.

Can I get a replacement key for the metal locker?
You may request for a replacement key at the Front Office. It will be chargeable and there will be a 1 week processing time.

Can I terminate my rental of the metal locker anytime?
For termination on your usage of our storage spaces or metal lockers, please provide us a 1 month notice via email to info@singaporesailing.org.sg. Penalty fees will be imposed for any failure to provide us with a notice for termination of your rental.
What type of storage is available at NSC?
Optimist storage (rack storage only), Laser Open & Rack Storage, Windsurfing storage, 29er/49er storage, metal cabinet storage, cage storage, powerboat storage (only for school program).

How do I apply for a boat storage?
Please submit the initial request at our Service Centre. Afterwhich all adminstrative applications and payments will be made at the front office. Due to the limited space, it will be subjected to availability.

How do I make renewal payment for my storage?

I have sold my boat, can the new owner use my current allocated storage space?
All new applicants or new boat owners are not allowed to retain the same storage space used after boat ownership transferred. Our Operation Supervisor will assigned a new storage space and reserved for you. Meantime, you are required to complete all administrative procedures and payment before storing your boat at our premises.

What will happen to my boat if I do not store my boats at the allocated space?
It is a must to store your sailing boat at the designated storage space assigned to you at all times, as part of our security and safety procedures. Any boat spotted by our SSF staff that was parked illegally or stored at unauthorised space , stern warnings will be issued and recorded. For repeated offence, SSF reserves the right to remove the boat out of NSC boatyard area.
What is the age limit for Opti Junior?
The participant must have turned 7 by the start of the course. The max limit is set for 12 years, however depends more on the size of the child than the age.

What is the cost of the Opti Junior Course?
Singaporeans: SGD 475.83 (incl. GST); PR/Foreigners: SGD 570.95 (incl. GST).

Does the participant need to know how to swim?
Yes, a swim test will be conducted in the open sea. Each participant will be equipped with a personal flotation device.

Is there a difference between the Full Day and the Half Day Opti Junior course?
Subjects covered are the same for both classes. At the end of both courses, the sailor will have the same skills, and can proceed to the Opti Sailor Course, if deemed ready by the coach.

What do we need to bring?
Suncream, sunglasses with retention strap, cap, water bottle, rubber soled shoes or sailing booties (no sandals!), rashguard or T-shirt and swim shorts (for on-water sessions), a pair of sailing gloves, towel, a set of extra clothing, snack, writing materials (notebook and pen).

If your child has started the course, we do not provide a refund. Management will decide on a case by case basis if we can do anything to make up for missed sessions.

My child is currently 13 years old and he felt that the boat is not suitable for him anymore. What should i do?
We would recommend you to sign-up your child for the Adult Basic Sailing Course. Upon completing the course, he may join our Laser weekend squad to continue to improve his skills.

I would like to have additional lessons during the weekdays. Can i have a one on one training with the coach?
We are not able to conduct a private or adhoc training on weekdays for participants

When can my child be promoted to another squad(Adv B or A)?
Promotion to higher squad will be based on your child’s progress in the local ranking regatta. The promotion period happens only after the gold fleet qualifier in January and July

I have paid for using NSC boat for training, should i still be paying to transfer the boat to the club for regattas?
Yes, it is the responsibility of the sailors to make payment for the transfer of boat to clubs for the regattas
