Head to East Coast Park on a windy weekend, and you might just witness all manner of boards, hydrofoils and other curious contraptions being disgorged from the back of vehicles at Car Park D1.

From a double-handed sailor to a sailing coach — Koh Yi Nian

As part of our efforts to promote our sailing coaches, we sat down with Koh Yi Nian, a 49er national sailor who took part in the 2023 Asian Games. He recently took part in our SG-Coach Level 1 course, and we asked him about his journey from a national sailor to being a coach. Read about his experience below and how his personal experiences as a sailor gave him insight into how impactful a coach can be!

"I feel a deep responsibility to give back" — Keelboater-turned-coach, Freddy Fam

As part of our efforts to promote our sailing coaches, we sat down with Freddy Fam, a recreational keelboat sailor who recently took our SG-Coach L1 course. We asked him why he decided to take up this path and what his experience was going through the course. Read about his journey and how he had to let go of his “old friend” on the water!

Faces of Sailing — Shahrom Taha

At just three months old, Shahrom Taha's children experienced their first taste of saltwater.  "We have this tradition of actually putting our newborns to sea," explained Shahrom, who is a descendant of the Orang Laut (which means “people of the sea” in Malay).  Singapore’s community of Orang Laut were a nomadic maritime group that lived on boats and in coastal settlements around the waters of Singapore.

⛵️CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SNSC CHAMPIONS 🇸🇬 The 2025 Singapore National Sailing Championships wrapped up on the final day with heavy rain and winds from the south to southwest. Our sailors faced wind speeds that varied widely, ranging from 3 to 13 knots. In the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 categories, Ian Goh and Kenan Tan defended their respective titles. For Kenan, this meant that he has now qualified to represent Singapore at the 2025 Youth Sailing World Championships.

2 Aug 2025: Over 500 participants at SG60 Open Seas Festival

Over 500 participants on dinghies, keelboats, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, outrigger canoes, windsurfers, kite and wing foilers were on the waters off the East Coast to celebrate Singapore's maritime legacy and access to open seas

U19 Bronze for Singapore’s Jonathan Chan at the T293+ World Championships 2025

🥉 SINGAPORE CLINCHES U19 BRONZE IN TECHNO 293+ WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 🇸🇬 Congratulations to Jonathan Chan for finishing third at the 2025 Techno 293Plus World Championships! “I feel very proud to achieve bronze in U19, I’ve worked really hard with my coach for this event, and it paid off,” said Jonathan. “I didn’t expect to podium in this event, but it’s a great surprise.” Jonathan placed ninth overall in the open category and clinched bronze in the U19 category.

Meritorious award for our junior optimist sailors

After winning back-to-back silvers in team racing at the 2024 and 2025 Optimist World Championships, our junior sailors were awarded the Meritorious Award in the Team category by the Singapore National Olympic Council. The team consists of (from left to right) Zeph Wann, Sean Kum, Desiree Lee, Ethan Chia and Pee Teck Woon.

Congratulations to our 2025 Pesta Sukan Champions!

⛵️ HERE ARE YOUR PESTA SUKAN CHAMPIONS 🏅 After the scorching heat of the first day, our sailors were faced with torrential rain on day two as the AP flag was flown. The D flag was finally hoisted just before 2 pm as racing got underway. The ILCA 4 sailors completed two races, with Nigel Tan winning both races. In the ILCA 6 class, the sailors all completed just one race. Keira Carlyle clinched the title after finishing fourth in the last race.
