The Singapore Sailing Federation laid out its development plans for coaches and race officials on 4 January 2025 during a town hall meeting attended by coaches and affiliates.

The Federation also stressed that all coaches must have full membership in the National Registry of Coaches (NROC).

To attain full membership, coaches will require an SG-Coach Level 1 certificate by 1 July 2025.

For individuals who do not possess a full NROC membership, SSF is conducting four SG-Coach Level 1 courses for coaches to complete their certification. (Click here to sign up.)

The town hall began with a breakout session to discuss various positive behaviours and practices the community would like to reinforce.

This exercise helped get everyone on the same page before the community discussed the negative behaviours that everyone agreed should be stopped.

Coaching Development

Led by SSF’s Technical Development Manager Terence Koh, SSF will align coaching standards with evidence-based athlete development frameworks. The Federation will offer workshops and courses to broaden coaches' knowledge in three domains – professional, interpersonal, and intrapersonal.

The Federation will also spotlight coaches through interviews. The aim is to showcase the value of our coaches, highlight their impact on the sport, and promote coaching as a valuable career path.

Race Officials Development

To grow the sport, the Federation also aims to develop race officials who are integral to the running of regattas. During the town hall, SSF laid out the Race Officer Development Pathway which is aligned with World Sailing.

Three race official courses are already open for registration and we will continue to provide opportunities for our officials to upskill themselves. For more information on our race officials courses and workshops, go to this link.

ActiveSailing

The town hall wrapped up with a discussion between the ActiveSailing department and the coaches who operate at the National Sailing Centre (NSC).

The coaches provided detailed feedback to improve the operations at NSC.
