02/12/21 – SingaporeSailing Appoints New Executive Director

Article Date: 2021/12/03

(Singapore, Thursday – 2nd Dec 2021) – Mr Terence Ho is the newly appointed Executive Director (ED) of the Singapore Sailing Federation [SingaporeSailing] with effect from 1 December 2021.  The former Lieutenant Colonel from the Republic of Singapore Navy takes over from Mr Tan Thong Meng who has decided to pursue his personal endeavours as a Captain of a Superyacht.

Mr. Tan, the former ED has dedicated his time in SSF for the last 2 years in mapping out the ideal standard of operations for the National Sailing Centre. Tan has also assisted SSF to foster closer ties with its affiliates through supporting the members of the federation in their outreach programmes. The former Principal of Royal Yachting Association academy has passed on his knowledge on boating and sailing experience by guiding the federation towards its aspiration to continue being a renown sailing association in Asia.

“The Executive Committee would like to thank Thong Meng for his commitment to SingaporeSailing during his tenure as ED and would like to wish him all the best in the next phase of his career,” said Dr Lincoln Chee, President of SingaporeSailing.

Quoting from Dr Lincoln Chee’s speech at the townhall during the ED handover ceremony… “We are pleased to welcome Terence as the new ED of Singapore Sailing. Terence brings several decades of strategic and operational experience as a senior officer in the Navy. Not withstanding the operational and financial challenges posed by the Covid Pandemic, Singapore Sailing remains focused on our strategic plan to be a medal contender at the Olympic and World Sailing class events. Our milestone performances at the recent Tokyo Olympics give us impetus for the coming Asian Games and 2024 OG and so the priority is on execution. I like to thank SSI for participating in this appointment and we look forward to hear more from Terence and his team in the coming months.”

Mr. Terence Ho, age 49, mentioned that he is honoured to be able to embark on this journey with SingaporeSailing as their ED.  He added…  “I take over the helm of a strong and capable team who have braved the brunt of the pandemic.  With our success from the Tokyo Games, it is clear that SSF has strong fundamentals, and what we need to do now is develop and expand on the continued support from the athletes, sailors, parents, sponsors and the government. Subject of course to the safety concerns of the virus, we are already planning to roll out a marquee event in Singapore that will attract world-class athletes, build spectatorship and garner greater investment in the sport. Together we will continue to raise the standards of the sport, and ensure that sailing remains accessible and inclusive for all.”

SSF’s new Executive Director brings passion about all things nautical to the post of the ED.  An avid scuba diver, Terence is also a certified Singapore Powered Pleasure Craft Driving License Instructor as well as International Yacht Training Recreational Program Instructor.  Terence brings to the SSF experience and skills gained from 27 years in the Navy and more recently, from his very own start-up, IncuBaker.
