The 55th Annual General Meeting of the Singapore Sailing Federation (SSF) was held online on the evening of 24 June 2021. In attendance was the SSF Executive Committee, representatives from affiliated members, SportSG, management and staff of SSF. Dr Lincoln Chee, who opened his address mainly spoke about how the pandemic affected the sailing fraternity here in Singapore.
However, with cooperation and strict adherence to the authorities’ Safe Management Measures, he was happy to note that the clubs could carry on sailing activities for their members. He asserted that diligence to keep the sailing community and their families safe was SSF’s responsibility.
Dr. Chee also commended six individuals who were inducted in the International Committee and Commissions by World Sailing, the global governing body of the sport. He also congratulated the 4 sailors who qualified for the Tokyo Games and praised their hard work amidst interruptions to the training schedules due to travelling bans for achieving thus far.
Encouraging everyone to stay positive and vigilant at the same time, Dr Chee ended his speech feeling confident that the Federation and their affiliates will stay stronger in promoting the sport and inspiring others with our perseverance in fighting the pandemic.
Echoing Dr. Chee’s vision, Mr. Tan Thong Meng, Executive Director of SSF continued to share details of how SSF is reaching out to the community at large in its efforts to promote sailing. Loaning of assets to the affiliates hopes to assist them to contain the cost of procuring dinghies. This was especially so to meet the high demand of public sailing courses that peaked during the travel restrictions.
At the AGM, the Executive Committee expressed its appreciation to the sailing community for their continued support and urged its members to embrace the new trends of the sport. Building on the solid foundation of its 51–year history, the sport has seen progress at all levels across the past year.
Three members of the Executive committee’s terms due, Mr.Stanley Chan (Deputy President), Mr.Jevan Tan (Vice President) and Ms.Mok Kah Mun (Honorary Treasurer) returned unopposed as nominated by the affiliates to serve the sailing community for another two–year term.
Dr Ben Tan was re–appointed as the Honorary Advisor for another year and shall continue to bring his vast experience and insights in guiding the Executive Committee. Mr.Rupert Ong and Mr.Khor Teck Lin continues to be co–opted into the Executive Committee for another year.
