Origins of Sailing

The word "sailing" comes from Old English segel or seglian, which means "sail." It has Germanic roots, seen in Dutch (zeil) and German (segel), all referring to sails used to harness the wind.

Sailing has played a key role in human history, from early explorers navigating the oceans to modern-day recreational sailing and competitive regattas.
